Our History

In 1969, the Tan family set up their first bak-kwa stall with the aim of sharing the goodness their famous bak-kwa with others. The stall was set-up by Madam Wong (mother of our Managing Director, Mr Tan). Even without any formal culinary training, she managed to develop a special recipe and the heavenly scent of her barbecued meat attracted curious customers from miles around.

Back then, her stall would be operating for 12 to 15 hours everyday due to overwhelming demand from the public. From rickshaw drivers to wealthy businessmen and foreign sailors, one could not resist the divine taste and unrivalled quality of Xiang Wei Bakkwa.

Today, Fragrance has evolved to become an islandwide chain with 21 outlets in Singapore and also, successfully launched in Malaysia with 5 outlets now. With constant effort in research and product development, we now produce bak-kwas in sumptuous turkey, beef, crocodile and honey flavours. What's more, our network of stores also carries many more tasty snacks including meat flosses, chinese sausages, mooncakes and cuttlefish etc.
